Description Acacia phlebophylla, commonly known as Mt Buffalo Wattle, is a rare Acacia native only to the high altitude granite slopes of Mount Buffalo National Park, Victoria. It occurs above 350m in woodlands and heathlands, often amongst granite boulders. A straggling shrub to small, twisted tree reaching up to 5 metres in height and span. It has large, elliptic, flat, commonly asymmetrical phyllodes 4–14 cm long, 1.5–6 cm wide, with coarse veins, a leathery feel, prominent nerves and reticulated veins. It produces deep yellow rod-like flowers in spring. This plant is one of the purest natural sources of dimethyltryptamine, which occurs as the predominant alkaloid throughout the plant.   Common name. Buffalo Sallow Wattle.   Specifications. 50mm Pot Size Seed Grown Plant   Ideal Growing Conditions. Acacia phlebophylla’s prefers well-drained, sandy to gravelly soils that mimic its natural granite-rich environment. They requires excellent drainage — it is not tolerant of heavy clay or waterlogged soils. Water lightly but consistently during establishment (the first 6–12 months). Once established, it is drought-tolerant, but prefers occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Avoid overwatering — it is sensitive to excess moisture around the roots. Naturally adapted to cool to temperate mountain climates. Tolerates frost and cold winters, but can struggle in hot, humid, or tropical regions. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed. Lightly prune after flowering to maintain shape or remove any dead or crossing branches. Avoid heavy cutting into old wood, as new growth may not return quickly. Pests and Diseases: Acacia phlebophylla’s are generally pest and disease resistant. Occasionally, you may see sap-sucking insects, like aphids or scale, which can be controlled with insecticidal soap, Eco Oil or Neem Oil. Watch for root rot or fungal issues if soil remains damp for long periods. Soil: You need a high quality potting mix, not a pre-bagged product such as you find at Bunnings etc, try a landscaping place. However, as I am not local to you I still can’t say if they have good quality or not. You are looking for well composted pine bark and large particles. This ensures air flow to the roots and good drainage. When time to re-pot, select a pot one size up ONLY and ensure it has many holes for good drainage. Fertiliser: We recommend and use Yates Nutricote Standard Black 270 Day Controlled Release Fertiliser however any good quality slow release fertiliser will do. We also stock an Australian Made liquid indoor fertiliser The Plant Runner Indoor Plant Food which is easy to use and odourless     We cannot send plants to Western Australia & Tasmania due to restrictions.   We strongly recommended to select Express Post shipping for all plant orders to minimise the transit time.   Interested in Acacia’s?
