Description An Important Note That We Should Probably Call “A Legal Disclaimer”: Ground Bird’s Eye chili shouldn’t be confused with “chili powder“, which is a mixture of spices used to make American-style chili. It’s easy to get them confused because a lot of people refer to this as “Bird’s Eye Chili Powder“. In fact, we used to call it that until we accidentally “heat poisoned” beloved family members. As the story goes, one night at the cottage Aunt Joan and Uncle Rich were making chili and poured a heaping spoonful into the pot thinking they were using regular “chili powder”. Being in their remote cabin in the woods, they didn’t have other ingredients around like sour cream, milk, yogurt or other “heat tamers” to try to reverse the added heat. Luckily they did have some pasta and cinnamon to try to even it out, but we hear the real trick to “putting the fire out” was the wine, which was probably poured a little heavier than planned that night.
